Shiatsu uses hand pressure and manipulative techniques to adjust the body’s physical structure and natural energy to maintain good health. It is a both a therapeutic and relaxing treatment. One of its’ goals is to improve the flow of energy through the body helping to restore balance.
Shiatsu is a great treatment for people of all ages. It can help treat a wide range of conditions as well as specific injuries and general signs of ill health. It can also be used as a support tool for people that suffer with chronic illness.
Common conditions that can be helped by shiatsu include back pain, migraines, whiplash, joint pain, asthmatic conditions, IBS, depression and stress. Shiatsu can help strengthen the central nervous system too, and in Japan it is widely used as a preventative measure due to its success in reducing blood pressure and producing an overall calming effect. Over the course of a number of shiatsu treatments, deep seated emotional patterns can be uncovered which can have profound effects on a patients life.

What does a shiatsu treatment involve?
Traditionally Shiatsu techniques are applied to the body whilst laying on the floor, however I prefer to use a body cushion placed on the treatment table for optimum comfort.
The entire body is normally treated during each session. The treatment will begin with you laying face down on the body cushion and then half way through the session you will turn over so the front of the body can be treated.
Different techniques including holding, pressing with hands, elbows and/or knees, rubbing and massage may be used at any time during the session. When appropriate more dynamic stretches and rotations will also be performed.
What should I wear to attend the treatment?
You will remain fully clothed during the treatment so please wear loose comfortable clothing.
How long does the treatment take?
The treatment takes one hour and begins with a verbal consultation to establish any symptoms and to take a full medical history, followed by the massage.
How will I feel after the treatment?
After a session there can be a feeling of increased vitality or you may feel invigorated and/ or relaxed.
To optimise the benefits from the treatment it is best to relax for at least an hour afterwards.
